POCO Art Show

Workshops

We are presenting two FREE workshops throughout the running of the show. Pssst… opening night is February 8th and “shift” runs until April 23rd.
On February 23 from 6-9 pm, Michelle will be presenting a collaborative quilt workshop. Participants will be given a blank canvas square to add to the textile-based installation. The creation of your square will be your art, inspired by the question “Is there hope in darkness”? These squares will be combined with other squares created by artists in prison to to create a Hope Quilt!
The Found Art-Painting and Sculpture workshop runs April 13th, 1:00-4pm, facilitated by Cathee-a sculptor on our team. Participants receive a blank canvas on which to create a piece from found objects. There is an option to bring a small, special piece from home to include in your piece. Found objects and people are beautiful and valuable!

Installation and Impact

Art & Justice is presenting an art show at the Michael Wright Gallery in Port Coquitlam. This exhibit, “shift,” represents the movement of time and what art means within it. All of the art we are showcasing is from currently or formally incarcerated people. As a member of the team and an artist whose work is included in the show, I was able to participate in the installation at the gallery. Installation day was amazing. The team, through snow and ice, transported the delicate pieces and assembled them with love, in the beautiful gallery, in a way that honoured the essence of each piece and matched the passion of the artists. It was a privilege to be trusted with the creations.
