We’re Committed To Justice

We believe in the transformative power of collaboration and creativity. We’re dedicated to supporting the holistic health, well-being, and dignity of currently and formerly incarcerated people in BC. Together, we can create a better future for all.

Through Participatory Action Research, we're making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by incarceration, criminalization and colonialism. By gifting high quality art supplies to people in prison, facilitating art workshops and learning, and showcasing resulting art with the wider community, we are taking seriously the role that art, storytelling, and witnessing have in building a better world.

Ongoing Work to Support Reciprocity

As of July 2022, we have delivered 765 art kits to federal prisons, parole offices, and other community partners. We have received over 800 piece of visual art and writing back.

We are currently developing new ways to best honour their stories, creativity, and work. This includes:

Creating art albums

These booklets are shared with incarcerated artists, so they can see their work and the work of their peers honoured on good quality paper. The physical booklets are also for sale at our community art exhibitions.

Developing digital platforms

We digitize artwork to help us share these important pieces more widely. This includes working with our partners at Correctional Services Canada to develop an offline digital gallery accessible inside prisons, so that artists and storytellers can read comments and words of gratitude from the community.

Hosting public art exhibitions

Art made in prison deserves to be appreciated by the wider community. To support this we host public art exhibitions across BC, showcasing the talent, voice and vision of incarcerated artists and writers.
